When I was a teenager I don’t remember having a skincare routine. In all honesty, I’m pretty sure I passed out without washing my face most nights of the week. The thing is, I suffered from acne and my skin breakouts were horrible. I also felt like they were embarrassing, and this really impacted my confidence and self-esteem.
Once I became an adult I finally began to take better care of my skin, but I do regret not getting into healthy habits with a proper skin care routine when I was in my teenage years. Perhaps this would have saved me from putting pounds of coverup on to cover the acne? Furthermore, I believe this may have helped decrease some of the breakouts, resulting in less anxiousness about what people were going to think about my skin.
For this reason, I want to empower my daughters to take care of their skin so that they don`t have to feel embarrassed, lack confidence or worry about complexion imperfection.
I have parents come to me and complain about how they can’t wait for their kids to get older so they don’t have to give them so many reminders when it comes to their personal hygiene routine, like brushing their teeth. The thing is, the reminders don’t end! I have to constantly remind my girls to wash up, and I even have to remind them to shower! Teenagers are a bit well, you know… smellier (due to hormonal changes) therefore, they need all the reminders they can get.
Inevitably this is the age when hormones begin to change and preteens and teens begin to notice skin changes such as oily skin, inflammation, whiteheads, clogged pores, and those dreaded pimples.
My twelve-year-old is beginning to notice these skin changes and I can hear her frustration when something appears on her face. The only thing I can do to help ease this frustration is to encourage her to get into the healthy habit of washing her face morning and night, moisturizing, and adding any spot treatments to necessary areas. My hope is that eventually I won’t have to remind them so much and the routine becomes autopilot. *fingers crossed
The products we’re using for my teenage daughter’s skin
With so many products on the market, it can be super overwhelming to choose the right one for my daughters.
I was so happy when I came across Thirsty Naturals Products because these skincare products are specially formulated for teens!
Thirsty Naturals is 100% natural, toxin-free, plant-based face and body care.
My girls have been using a range of these products including the face wash, moisturizer, spot treatment, all over body wash, deodorant, and dry shampoo. They love the packaging! They have been using the face wash morning and evening and my daughter who suffers from eczema says she really likes that the product is gentle and doesn’t make her skin react. My other daughter loves using the spot treatment, and dry shampoo.
And I love seeing them get into a consistent healthy routine of taking care of their personal hygiene!
About Thirsty Naturals
Founder Jennifer Carlson was inspired to develop Thirsty Naturals after her own babies grew to be teenagers and realized there was nothing on the market she could feel good about buying for her own teens to use for their personal hygiene routine.
If you’re looking for all natural personal hygiene products for your tween and teens I highly recommend Thirsty Naturals. My girls love them, and I love the price point! Super affordable, and made in Canada.
