Five Reasons You Should Visit El Salvador

*This is a collaborative post

Summer is just around the corner, which means that it’s time to start planning your summer vacation. If you haven’t narrowed down a destination yet, then why not consider El Salvador? Of course, it’s the smallest country in Central America, meaning that it’s often overshadowed by its more famous neighbors, Panama and Costa Rica, and does have a real gang problem. But despite all this, El Salvador has a lot to offer, including beautiful sights, friendly locals, and delicious foods. If you’re not convinced yet, then keep reading for five reasons to visit El Salvador.

It’s Relatively Cheap

I will admit, flights to El Salvador can get incredibly pricey, which often puts off potential travelers, but once you’ve forked out the cash for the plane, the rest of the trip is pretty cheap. You can easily find accommodation for around 20 dollars a night, and meals can cost as little as a couple of dollars, as long as you eat like the locals. Public transport is also really cheap, making El Salvador a perfect option if you’re looking to go on holiday on a budget.

The Beaches Are Beautiful

The miles and miles of gorgeous beaches are one of El Salvador’s best-kept secrets, so if you’re looking for somewhere to kick back and relax for a while, then this is your place. What’s even better is that, because El Salvador rarely gets many tourists, you’ll often have these beautiful beaches all to yourself, and as such, won’t have to struggle to find somewhere to lay out your beach towel.

You Can Exercise Plenty

If you like to stay active and keep up with your exercise while you’re on holiday, then you’re in luck, because El Salvador has plenty of opportunities to do just that. Of course, you could book a hotel, like Courtyard San Salvador, which has a fitness suite inside, but you also shouldn’t overlook what you can do outside. There are plenty of places for you to hike in El Salvador, as well as the chance to learn to surf.

They Have Pupusas

If I haven’t convinced you yet, then pupusas, a traditional Salvadoran dish, hopefully, will. It’s made of a thick corn tortilla, meat, beans, cheese, and a cabbage relish, called curtido, and it’s delicious and incredibly cheap to buy. If this doesn’t sound like your thing, then they also have fresh seafood available pretty much everywhere, so all you need to do to get the catch of the day is take a stroll along the boardwalk and pick whichever restaurant you like the look of.

There are Loads To See

Although there aren’t many huge tourist attractions in El Salvador, there are plenty of interesting things to see, and because the country is so small, you can usually see a lot of what you want to in a short trip. There are some great archaeological sites that you could visit, as well as a string of volcanoes, some of which remain active today. Luckily, because of the lack of tourists, you’ll be able to visit these sites and look around at your own pace.

El Salvador isn’t the most obvious place for a vacation, but it is beautiful and definitely worth the trip. Every place has bad people, so don’t let theirs stop you from visiting this amazing country.
