A few weeks ago I received a new Apple iPhone X. I was so excited to receive this new phone but in all honesty, I was also scared to upgrade my phone.
I know it may sound crazy.
Who wouldn’t want a brand new phone, especially a new iPhone X?!
The thing is, I wanted the new phone because of the many cool features it offers but I guess I felt lazy about learning how to use it. I mean, it doesn’t have a home button!
How on earth was I was supposed to get used to that?
I know I’m only talking about upgrading a phone and for some people this may seem like no big deal. In fact, I know so many people who are super tech-savvy! It’s kind of ironic that I’m a blogger yet, I feel like I’m a senior when it comes to using my device. My husband always jokes around and says I remind him of his parents when I’m not sure how to use my phone to its full potential.
In other words, I loved the idea of having a new phone but I don’t love the idea of having to learn the new features it offers.
However, once I learn something new I always notice it’s easier than I thought it was going to be.
For this reason, when I found out TELUS offers a service where you can come into any T Learning Centre and book a complimentary session with a Telus Learning specialist, I was so relieved.
Typically I tend to try and figure things out on my own because I have a hard time asking for help. However, I was willing to take all the help I could get so I could navigate my phone with less frustration and more ease.
When I arrived at my appointment at the stunning TELUS Garden I was embraced with a friendly smile and greeting from a TELUS learning specialist named Diana.
I let Diana know some of the basic things I was having trouble with, like setting up my email and setting up the voice recognition for Siri. She showed me how to do this as well as how to easily navigate my new iPhone without having a home button. I also had no idea how to close pages/applications that were open. When she showed me how to do this I laughed at how simple it was!

Diana walked me through the store using the Ikea app where we digitally decorated a home. How cool is that?
We also opened up the maps application and explored a few cities we’ve never visited before. It was so immersive and looked like we were really flying over New York.
This is the number one reason I was excited about this new phone. The new selfie with the depth of field effect keeps your face in sharp focus while blurring out the background.
Diana showed me how to use portrait lightning for studio-quality effects. Simply swipe right in the menu to choose an effect and you can also edit lighting effects on portrait mode photos. We changed our selfie to black and white.
I tested this out again in color and couldn’t believe how sharp the focus is!

My nephew enjoyed the hayride @aldoracres 30th anniversary event yesterday. When the cows 🐮 came right up to us my nephew yelled while waving his hands, “Shoo, Shoo!” 😂 I thought it was so funny. The girls loved holding the soft bunnies 🐰 and I was happy to be outside enjoying the fresh air!. . I’ve also been loving using the camera on my new iPhone X from @telus. Can’t wait to share some of the cool features this phone has to offer (which I learned from a Telus learning specialist) in an upcoming blog post. Diana knows I’m a blogger and use social media quite frequently so she thought I would be interested in learning about clips. It’s a free app for making fun videos with stickers, effects, animated text and more. I’m excited to play around with Clips and upload them to my Instagram stories!

All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my learning session with Diana-TELUS learning centre representative. She was friendly and thorough. I left with a ton of knowledge ( I think would have taken me forever to learn on my own).
Best of all, the kids were entertained the entire time too!
I’m glad I was open to visiting a TELUS specialist and I’m so grateful they offer this service.
When I thanked Diane for her help she smiled from ear to ear and replied, “No problem, that’s what I’m here for”.
