#HerHealthMatters : Help support BC Women’s hospital to assist the healthcare needs of women this International Women’s Day

Women are the backbone of our society and their health matters

Did you Know?

Women still face sharp disadvantages in many facets of life, including health outcomes.

  • until the 1990’s, less than thirty years ago, women were not included in most healthcare and research studies.
  • even though women are physiologically different many prescriptions drug therapies and treatment protocols still in use today have been disproportionally studied on men.
  • each year, heart disease kills more women than men, yet only 1/3 of patients in heart disease research studies are women – even after it was discovered that conventional testing fails to diagnose heart disease in most women.
  • women are more likely to report severe and long-lasting pain but are typically treated less aggressively than men.

There is undisputed evidence that when women thrive, all of the society benefits in terms of their health, sustainability, and economically. And yet, so many barriers exist to ensuring that women are thriving. That’s why investing in women’s health is central to supporting the greater health of our communities because of Her Health Matters.

In support of International Women’s Day and Women’s Health from, March 1st- March 8th, 12 health and wellness businesses across BC are teaming up with BC Women’s Hospital to bring focus to the healthcare needs of women.
