Over the Christmas holidays, our family spent a week in California. Well, the plan was a trip to Disneyland but after our third full day of Disneyland, we all felt like we wanted a break. That said, we decided to rent a car for the day and explore a little bit of California.
The girls were excited to sit back and enjoy the ride. They walked for three full days in Disneyland so the scenic car ride felt nice and chill. The girls loved seeing the big billboards and palm trees. My husband was enjoying the California hip-hop radio stations and I was happy listening to my girls in the back of the car ooh and ah, at the simplest things they saw from their windows.
Our first destination was Hollywood Boulevard so we could check out the Hollywood Walk of Fame! We couldn’t go to California and not show the girls Hollywood! It was a busy day on the Hollywood walk of fame because the infamous Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) from Star Wars had just passed at the age of 60 the evening before. People were paying their respects and I think people were quite disappointed she didn’t have a star on the walk of fame.
The girls loved looking for names of celebrities they recognized on the stars, and they were captivated by the people who dressed up as celebrities too!
Our second destination of the day was Venice Beach. The reason we decided to check out Venice beach was because this is a place my husband and I have never been. On our last trip to California, we explored Newport Beach. Needless to say, we were thrilled to check out Venice Beach.
And, we loved the vibe!!!
There were friendly people everywhere. Some peeps were walking the strip and checking out the local shops and CHEAP food, other people were riding bikes, and some were surfing! Oh yes, and how can I forget, some peeps were working out! There’s a reason people call it muscle beach! It was especially fun to see the muscle beach part of Venice. I have only seen it in movies so this made it actually feel real.
We also played at the beach, watched some people shoot hoops, “White men can’t jump style”. That movie was the only thing I could think of while I was watching. HEHE!
In addition, we also watched a guy put on a show where he walked on glass barefoot!!!! The kids didn’t know whether to look or hide their eyes!
Next time I’m back at Venice Beach I’m totally renting a bike and cruising around.
The weather was so nice and toasty warm for December. We were in shorts, sandals, and summer dresses!
I’m so glad we spent a day exploring California with the kiddos. We felt like we made the most of our trip because we did this. And on our last day in California, we went back to Disneyland for a few more rides before we had to head to the airport. I can’t wait to go back!!!! There’s still so much more I want to see, do and eat in California!!
