Hi Friends,
This week for #3ThingsThursday I am sharing with you three items locally made that you can pick up as last-minute gift items( if you haven’t already purchased them). These items are actually on my wish list, so let’s hope my hubby has a read! Hehe!
1. The first item I am loving, is a candle. I know what you’re probably thinking, with such a variety of candles out there, it’s hard to choose. However, these candles are made local by a team of people, a couple to be exact, and a lot of heart and soul are put into these babies. Every candle is handmade using clean-burning, petroleum-free coconut wax.
The candle retails for 29.00 Canadian and is 13.50z. They are available in four aromatherapy scents.
Despite the candles trendy, clean look and heavy bold print, it is the story behind the duos candle making, that hits me in the heart.
Sonia, whom I’ve had the pleasure of meeting recently, is genuine, and articulate. She shared a bit of their background story on Woodlots Instagram page and I fell in love.
This is their story:
As a young girl, I would hand-roll cotton with my mom, who had learned the practice from my grandmother back home in India. The cotton wicks were used to create tea-lights, intended to burn all day.
Growing up on the Mediterranean coast, Fouad played in a backyard full of olive trees . He remembers operator the olive press with his father and uncle, and always putting aside the last few batches for soap.
With our origins steeped in family tradition, we keep future generations in mind. That’s why each Woodlot candle is handmade with care using clean burning, petroleum free coconut wax. And why all our soaps are made in small batches with specially -selected ingredients from our favorite places in the world. We like to call ourselves “Citizens of the world”
So, you can see how their story got me. I love a good story. I also love supporting local. So, if you are out looking for last-minute gifts, keep Woodlot candles in mind. Or better yet, add one to your wish list!

Here’s the story behind Vonbon
Jennifer and Kristin, stylish sisters and thoughtful gift givers, were sick of buying traditional baby wears for the many expectant mothers in their lives. Lovers of fashion, design and above all, quality, they saw a need for premium, eco-friendly goods that represented their modern tastes for both mother and child. Inspired by the sophistication of neutral palettes that work to transition among all elements of their lives, Vonbon designs are appropriate for either gender, any age and all homes. Designed and crafted in beautiful Vancouver, BC, each product has been mindfully created for trendy babies and their even trendier parents. Certified organic, using only water-based inks and made in small batches, each pattern is designed by the VONBON team and purposefully created to mix and match to make the style uniquely yours.
